“It’s the economy, stupid.” Remember that phrase from 1992, when Bill Clinton was elected president? Of all the things that voters were concerned about, the economy topped the list.
This time around, we have inflation, supply chain issues, immigration, and democracy. The list goes on and on. But I have a sneaking feeling that we will elect a woman president this time, because of misogyny.
What is misogyny? Webster defines it as “hatred of, aversion to, or prejudice against women.” People think to themselves, “I don’t hate women. I love them. I’ve been married to three of them.” Well, let me break it down a little. If, during the feminist movement, you referred to young women as “femi-Nazis,” then you might be a misogynist. If you’ve ever said that women should be barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen, you might be a misogynist. If you find yourself saying, “That’s good — for a girl,” you might be a misogynist. If you didn’t think women should go to law school or medical school or be in the Army, you might be a misogynist.
This time around, we have a woman running against a misogynist for president. He comes complete with an army of misogynists trying to roll the clock backward on women’s rights, racial equity, you name it.
So this time around, this election, it’s not the economy, immigration or inflation. It’s misogyny, stupid.
