Letter: Panhandlers' progress

Over the past 25 years or so, I’ve taken a walk most days. During a very few of these walks, I’ve been asked for “spare change” by panhandlers.

I was very surprised on Monday of this week when a car pulled up close to me near the corner of International Airport Road and Arctic Boulevard. A man leaned out the window and asked if I had a spare dollar.

I said yes, and walked off.

In my view, Anchorage has either made significant financial progress or panhandlers are breaking new ground in this under-appreciated industry.
