Letter: PAC access

Recently, a letter-writer suggested reversing the traffic flow on 5th and 6th Avenues to make drop-offs at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts easier and safer.

We think two simpler and cheaper measures should be considered before anything so drastic as reversing the traffic flows in the heart of the city.

One alternative would be to use the sky bridge between the Egan Center and the Performing Arts Center for access to the PAC, with dropoffs taking place on the Fifth Avenue sidewalk in front of the Egan.

The other would be to put in a dropoff lane across the front of the PAC between 5th and 6th Avenues. This would permit easy and safe dropoffs from both sides of a vehicle.

Either would be far better than continuing the present awkward and unsafe arrangement requiring right-side passengers to be dropped off into a busy traffic lane on 6th Avenue, or reversing the traffic flow on 5th and 6th.
