Letter: Plowing fundraiser

The past two winters have unveiled a chasm between our city’s plowing needs and its current capacity for snow removal.

To help address this gap, and lift everyone’s spirits in the process, I propose the Municipality of Anchorage auction off naming rights for the plows to raise money for additional equipment, maintenance, and operators. Once plows are named, we have a local artist paint them up a bit to reflect their names, like we used to do with bombers and other aircraft in World War II.

Just think how excited the kids will be to see Sleetwood Mac coming down their street! Maybe this week we’ll get Blade Runner! Or Taylor Drift! Let’s build some community around the folks working hard to keep the streets clear and enable them to do the job faster at the same time.
