Letters to the Editor

Letter: The book wars

As a librarian, I directed a public library and later served as a public school librarian at both the elementary and middle school levels. I have been following the subject of book burning — oops, I meant banning — and the proposals for keeping some titles under lock and key, similar to the way expensive liquors are held at Fred Meyer.

Then this morning over coffee, I realized that soon this controversy will come to a natural end. Our inept governor and mayor continually work to reduce funding for education.

Soon our children may no longer have the skills to read words like “puberty,” “masturbation,” “transgender” or “misogyny.”

This issue will become a moot point.

Now, off to finish “Fahrenheit 451.”
