Give me a break. Mayor Dave Bronson, when asked about adding private snow plowing contractors to the mix this winter, said that he is reluctant to micromanage his street maintenance manager, Paul VanLandingham. According to Bronson: “If Paul needs them, he will get them. I don’t micromanage that. That’s a real good question for Paul.” In reality, it’s a great way to shift the blame to someone other than Bronson himself. It’s as if VanLandingham is free to hire whomever and whatever he wants with no oversight or expectations from the mayor. If that’s really the case, Paul, open the gates and turn the private plows loose to free up our roads, knowing you’ve got the complete blessing of your boss.
