When the presidential debates begin, the greatest favor the hosts can do the public is to provide the moderator with switches for the microphones. When a speaker is given a specific time to speak, their mic should be cut dead at the end of that period.
This would nullify the practice of some candidates of interrupting or talking over their opponents. Of course, it would be effective only if rigorously enforced for all speakers, but I’m sure there must be unbiased moderators available who would do so.
