If — as public opinion polls have shown — around 60% of Alaskans support abortion access, then why do we allow Alaska Attorney General Treg Taylor to waste time and energy in pursuit of anti-abortion actions? Although Taylor is certainly permitted to his personal views, spending state resources on these matters should be off limits. Yet time and again, Taylor chooses to use his office to try to strip people of their right to safe and legal abortions.
Maybe Gov. Mike Dunleavy needs to remind Taylor that they both serve at the pleasure of the voters, not the 40% — or fewer — who would ban all abortions. Taylor’s ongoing string of political stunts like this is an insult to all voters, including those who happen to share his anti-abortion views.
