Let me get this straight. The Alaska Board of Game, a political entity, just authorized in March — without public input — the killing by helicopter of brown bears (black bears and wolves, too, if you can get them), despite Alaska Department of Fish and Game biologists reporting it would not help given the degradation of habitat, brucellosis, and illegal hunting affecting the Mulchatna caribou herd. One ADFG biologist even said there is a mistaken belief that killing a predator automatically saves a caribou. ADFG staff shot 94 brown bears, including cubs, over a couple of weeks. That is not wildlife management. It is a slaughter.
