Letter: Child care is essential

Child care is essential for single parents such as myself. Single parents don’t have the capacity to navigate work and simultaneously care for their children fulltime, because we have to work to provide.

As a parent, my mind is in constant parent mode trying to figure out how I’m going to pay for rent, food, health insurance and maintain shelter for my child. It’s a constant internal battle with myself as it is not having the time to dedicate fully to my child, but I have to work as a citizen of the United States. If we look at everything holistically, if child care is taken away, many families will be affected and the state will experience adverse impacts because there will be fewer workers gainfully employed to drive the economy forward.
