Letters to the Editor

Letter: Chugach elections

I recently received an Alaska Center subscriber email regarding the upcoming Chugach Electric Board of Directors election. It announced the three candidates they endorse for the election.

One particular statement concerned me: “… This year, three board members will be elected, and we have the opportunity to win almost half the board in one year!” That statement suggests that the Alaska Center wants to “take over” the board by getting their candidates elected.

The Alaska Center has an agenda, I expect, and it may be a noble one. However, as a CEA member, I do not want my utility governed by a special interest group. I call into question their vetting process. My vote will be for the incumbents who do have relevant degrees, prior board experience and successful private business backgrounds. Since my rates have been stable and my power very reliable, it seems they have been doing their jobs.
