Letter: The school funding misconception

There seems to be some miscommunication about how Anchorage can best serve their students. As a result of the determination that certain schools may need to close due to low enrollment, the verbal outcry was to raise the individual student allocation amount in order to keep those schools open (and further increased pressure stating they were in “low income” parts of Anchorage).

The reality is increasing individual student taxpayer allocation funds does not help or make sure our students meet educational standards. What does (even if a student takes a bus to another school) is that education funds are used to pay teachers and not be forced to pay extraneous administration or building maintenance costs.
