Letter: Be safe on the roads

My husband and I are out and about multiple times a day and have observed frequent poor and even dangerous driving on local streets. Where is Anchorage Police Department traffic enforcement — or is there an APD or Assembly plan to create such a unit if it doesn’t now exist?

Too many people generally drive too fast, especially for today’s road conditions; they turn left at red lights, and most critically, drive through red — not yellow — lights. We understand this winter’s road conditions stem from maintenance challenges, but the driving habits year-round are nonetheless a threat to others. Those whom I ask agree that it’s foolhardy not to pause several seconds when your light turns green. A walker, I see red light runners daily. Please slow down, mind the rules of the road and help Anchorage roads become safer for us all.
