Letter: Gaming out the 2024 race

Can Joe Biden win a second term in 2024? Polls seem to indicate a resounding “no.”

What if President Biden retired due to ill health in 2023? A precedent has been set — if Pope Benedict XVI could do it, so can Mr. Biden. Vice President Kamala Harris would then assume the presidency.

What if Harris ran for president in 2024? Could she win the Democratic nomination and then the presidency? Would running as the incumbent strengthen her hand? Or would one of the other likely contenders win the nomination: Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Massachusetts’ Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Vermont’s Sen. Bernie Sanders, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez?

Just asking.
