The Anchorage Assembly has tripled the fine for excessive vehicle noise. Apparently, this increase was prompted by complaints about “a certain class of compact sports cars,” whatever that is.
My question is this: Will this increase in the noise-violation fine result in the “repeal” of the tacit, longstanding practice of city officials to turn a blind eye (and a deaf ear) to the ungodly racket emanating from unmuffled or lightly muffled Harley-Davidson motorcycles?
During motorcycle season, these obviously unmuffled Harleys are everywhere. But based on past experience, these engine-noise megaphones will continue to just blast by, with a pass from the authorities. Why?
