Letter: The underlying issue

Years ago, while waiting to testify in a civil trial, I watched another one in which a couple were defending themselves from being evicted. The lease allowed tenants to have pets, including one dog, as long as it was not a “pitbull.” The contention on the tenants’ part was their second dog was an “American Bulldog” and therefore allowable. After listening to extensive testimony and viewing all kinds of reference material on dog breeds, the judge ruled against them. The reason: They were allowed one dog and they had two.

Ex-President Donald Trump and his lawyers are trying the same tactics. They are arguing documents seized from Mar-A-Lago were “declassified” when the real issue is: The government still owns them, and it was illegal for the former president to possess them, regardless of their classification.
