In August, we will be voting for our elected representatives for the state. I urge you to clean house and vote out every incumbent, as they are defying our mandates. We have voted to shorten legislative sessions and they can’t or won’t meet our mandates. They not only won’t shorten their sessions, they need multiple “special sessions” — with additional wages — to still not conduct our business. When is enough is enough? If you spend a little time researching, you will find out that the oil companies have donated to many legislators. What does the oil industry get for its money? Legislators who ignore price-gouging. As of this week, Alaska fuel prices exceed the national average by more than $1 per gallon. This is despite the fact that the companies pump the crude from under Alaska soil. Is this fair to you?
If we had one legislator who was interested in his/her constituents, they would stop this blatant price-gouging. A new law that stated “Any time the price of fuel in the Anchorage area exceeds the national average by one cent per gallon, then the State of Alaska will institute a $10 per barrel tax. When the price of fuels exceeds the national average by an additional five cents, an additional $10 per barrel shall be levied with no maximum limit on the new tax.” I bet that all of Alaska would see immediate reductions in the price of fuels. We should not have to resort to this type of action, but the Veco standards are still in effect.
