Letter: Valuable lessons

I find the items Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis faults as “social and emotional learning” in textbooks seem to be the same ideals we believe kids should learn growing up. What youth activity does not revolve around the principles that we should all get along together, helping one another is good or self-awareness is a critical part of growing up?

Remove all the things DeSantis dislikes in textbooks and you find yourself question why scouting, athletics or any youth groups exist. I do not know of a single youth program that does not claim one major benefit of their program are the things DeSantis despises.
