Letter: Time for change

As I read Sunday’s commentary on school board responsibility, which I agreed with, I couldn’t help but think about the months of wasted time back in 2020 that ASD’s board put into renaming East High School. Superintendent Deena Bishop, East High’s then-principal Sam Spinella, and most of the 50-plus years of alumni thought it was a bad idea. Yet the Anchorage School Board overrode some very sensible alternative schools to rename. The truth is the ASD’s board subdued to the “woke” pressure of people like Celeste Hodge Growden with the Alaska Black Caucus and the NAACP.

It was a bad idea then, and now the voters have the opportunity to make a change.
