Letters to the Editor

Letter: The best intentions

First of all, rest in peace, Don Young. Of course, his unexpected death is bringing out all sorts of people vying to fill Alaska’s lone Congressional seat, including some washed-out politicians better forgotten.

I’d like to think that most, or even some, of these candidates want to be our U.S. Representative because they have a noble desire to serve all Alaskans’ interests. I’d like to think that their primary motivation isn’t the $174,000 starting salary, free airfare, free health care, free meals and generous pension. Of course, these perks make it an attractive position to seek, I get that. But if only there were a way to know if these candidates were truly interested in the service aspect of the job.

Term limits.
