Letter: Behavioral health awareness

The recent opinion piece “Behavioral health means resilience and well-being” from Cathy Giessel offered excellent reasoning as to the importance of accessible behavioral health services for Alaskans. We appreciate her highlighting the needs of children that have experienced trauma, because intervening early can alter the life course trajectory in a positive direction.

We are also grateful to Alaska Behavioral Health and our many other partners who provide behavioral health services to Alaskans of all ages across the state.

Lastly, by bringing attention to this important work, Ms. Giessel is helping increase public awareness and reduce the stigma around behavioral health needs — which benefits all of us.
