Letter: Shallow politics

I call it shallow politics when basic tenets are ignored in the name of power retention. Just trying to be polite. The backbone of America depends on the elected leaders to not only serve their constituents, but to do the right thing, even when it might be detrimental to their career. History has been kind to the noble.

Pawns are taken and forgotten, and being one by choice really baffles me. Where are the leaders with firm foundations? Lying is something we all do, but when we start lying to ourselves, it becomes a mental illness. So many politicians today find it easy to repeat known falsehoods that it makes me wonder: Are they shallow or sick?
