The Anchorage Baptist Temple has for decades allied itself with the Alaska Republican Party and its candidates, while explicitly opposing reproductive justice, LGBTQ rights, and any other public policy perceived as contrary to fundamentalist Christian social values. It is truly saddening, but completely unsurprising, to learn that these positions were accompanied at Anchorage Christian Schools by an admixture of casual racism.
I hope that the students unfairly affected by this can find some solace; I have scant hope that the church itself will change, but would love to be proven wrong.
