Where is Rep. Don Young, Alaska’s 86-year-old congressman? While the nation is in meltdown, and the U.S. House struggles to come up with legislation to save a disintegrating economy, Young is apparently wandering around Alaska promoting himself and collecting money for his re-election.
On Saturday, when the House passed a first bill to address the coronavirus crisis, Young was glad-handing supporters at a Mat-Su Friends of the NRA Banquet. On Monday, as the House was still working on pandemic legislation and the White House was coming to grips with the possibility that more than 2.2 million Americans could die, Alaska’s lone congressman was preparing for a cocktail party fundraiser in Anchorage. The party only got canceled after the mayor closed bars and restaurants — including the site of the fundraiser — in an effort to reduce the spread of disease.
Where is Don Young? And why isn’t he doing the job he was elected to do?
