Letters to the Editor

Letter: Sick and tired

I’m sick and tired of watching candlelight vigils on television; tired of listening to pastors leading the faithful in “Amazing Grace;” tired of reading pre-shooting manifestos originally uploaded onto 8chan; tired of FBI agents searching for a motive; tired of listening to former high school acquaintances talk about their ‘loner’ friend; and especially tired of bought-and-paid-for politicians urging us to share our “thoughts and prayers.”

The single, only answer to gun violence is to limit gun availability. Make them harder to come by. And the only way to do that legally is to elect people who are not wholly owned subsidiaries of the National Rifle Association. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has received $1.26 million from the NRA, earning him the unhappy (though deserved) sobriquet, “Massacre Mitch.”

Allowing our own congressional delegation, Sens. Dan Sullivan and Lisa Murkowski, as well as Rep. Don Young, to remain in office ensures that gun violence will continue unabated. When we replace them and other members of their party, we’ll get universal background checks and a ban on assault weapons. Sullivan is up for re-election in 2020. Hold his feet to the fire.
