The Green Bay Packers signed Aaron Rogers to an expensive contract extension, reportedly offering the quarterback $110 million over five years with a $62.5 million guarantee.
Not bad for a guy picked 24th in the 2005 draft. In fact, many are saying it's the most expensive deal in NFL history.
The Packers are quick to point out that Rogers is worth it. The quarterback currently ranks "No. 1 in NFL history with a career passer rating of 104.9," and also "ranks No. 1 in league history in career INT percentage."
Ted Thompson, Executive Vice President and General Manager and Director of Football Operations, was thrilled to have Rogers extend his contract.
"Aaron is a true professional and a special player," Thompson said. "He works hard, is humble, and is focused on his actions, on and off the field. He is an excellent teammate and pushes himself and others to be the very best. We are happy to reach an agreement to extend his career with the Packers."
Rogers seemed just as excited, tweeting:
Big thanks to the Organization, our coaching staff, my teammates, and packer nation for the last 8 years!Excited about 7 more!#extension
According to Forbes, Rodgers will likely get $62.5 million in the first three years, surpassing by $1 million quarterback Drew Brees' record signing of $61 million last summer.
Suffice to say things are going well for Rogers. So good in fact, that's he's earned a number of endorsement deals (like the discount double check). And the Wisconsin Legislature, to show its love, made Dec. 12, 2012 "Aaron Rodgers Day."
