First Watch: Egypt's government resigns

The military-backed Egyptian government has officially resigned, a move that paves the way for General Al-Sisi to declare a run for president. The military has been in charge of the Egyptian state since protests last summer ousted President Mohamed Morsi. After 7 months, a date for a new presidential election has not yet been set.

The US and EU are scrambling to stabilize Ukraine after a tragically bloody week in Kiev that forced the ouster of the country's president, who is now facing arrest. Looming fears of civil war and Russian involvement in the crisis shadow the nation as it arranges new elections and interim governments.

And finally, the 2014 Olympic Winter Games have officially ended, with closing ceremonies Sunday night. Host country Russia took the top spot in the medal count with 33 medals, 13 of them gold.
