Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to give up their titles, Buckingham Palace says

They’re fully Megxiting.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will give up their royal titles, Buckingham Palace announced Saturday. The two will no longer receive royal funding and will cease to function as acting members of Britain's most famous family, effective this spring,

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shocked the world earlier this month when they revealed they wished to step back from the blinding spotlight created by the royal family.

Markle, 38, and the Prince, 35, have said they intend to relocate to North America, with many wondering if they'll target Canada as their landing spot. Their British estate, Frogmore Cottage, will remain their U.K. home residence, but the couple said they intend to give back money they spent on a refurbishment of the manse, according to Buckingham Palace.

"I want to thank them for all their dedicated work across this country, the Commonwealth and beyond, and am particularly proud of how Meghan has so quickly become one of the family," Queen Elizabeth said in an official statement. "It is my whole family's hope that today's agreement allows them to start building a happy and peaceful new life."

On Monday, Prince Harry met with the royal brass to puzzle out the future relationship. Markle, in Canada, did not phone in to the summit held at Sandringham estate in England.

The royal rift grew after Markle and Harry wed in 2018, with the two at times facing furious and unfavorable press coverage in Britain. The tenor of the coverage directed toward Markle has often carried a repugnant racist hue.

The queen hinted that the cracks started to surface months ago, saying in her statement Saturday that new relationship came not only after the recent summit but "many months of conversations."

The Duke and Duchess spent the holidays hauled up in the quieter pastures of Canada, with their baby, Archie.

The travels came after Buckingham Palace announced in November that the couple would skip the annual Christmas festivities at Sandringham to spend time with Markle's mother, Doria Ragland.

Then, after the holidays and New Year's, the parents made their jump Jan. 8, announcing their desire to pull back from the royal family and sending the reeling royals into crisis mode.

After Harry joined Prince Charles, Prince William and Queen Elizabeth for talks Monday, the queen said she had requested that a resolution be reached with days. On Saturday, it came _ in the form of a hard Megxit.

“I am pleased that together we have found a constructive and supportive way forward for my grandson and his family,” the queen, 93, said in her statement. “Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved members of my family.”
