Photos: Colony Greenhouse gets ready for growing season

Scott and Mardie Robb transplant dianthus flowers, which they started from seed at their Colony Greenhouse in Palmer, Alaska, on Tuesday, March 24. The greenhouse will be open to the public on April 1. The couple will have 750 hanging baskets and three greenhouses full of flats of flowers and vegetables for sale.

The Robbs have been operating Colony Greenhouse for 20 years. Scott Robb also grows giant vegetables for competitions at the Alaska State Fair in Palmer. This year Robb is aiming for a record giant red cabbage. The record for this smaller variety of cabbage is 45.25 pounds. Robb also has celery and other vegetables growing for the competition.
