Two people are dead after a police standoff in Anchorage that started Friday afternoon, according to the Anchorage Police Department.
Police responded to the 1700 block of Cache Drive after receiving report of a domestic disturbance around 1 p.m. Police allege a man inside the home assaulted his mother and adult sister, according to Jennifer Castro, APD's communications director.
The mother was found with severe assault injuries and taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead around 4 p.m., Castro wrote in a news release. The sister was taken to a hospital and treated for injuries.
Meanwhile, police surrounded the home on Cache Drive while the man remained inside. By 6 p.m., police found him dead inside of the home from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Castro wrote.
