High-speed chase ends with suspect stuck in mud near Wasilla

A Wasilla man was arrested Saturday for leading authorities on a high-speed chase down Knik-Goose Bay Road before attempting an off-road escape and getting stuck in a mud puddle, according to Alaska State Troopers.

In an online dispatch, troopers said they tried to contact 27-year-old Wyatt Metro for a felony warrant on vehicle theft charges at an address in Wasilla about 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

"Troopers on scene observed Metro drive by in a vehicle and attempted a traffic stop on him," troopers wrote.

Metro failed to pull over and led officers through neighborhoods at "excessive rates of speed" before heading west down Knik-Goose Bay Road, the dispatch said.

Troopers said Metro was driving at speeds of 80 mph and failed to stop at red traffic lights; he was eventually arrested when he tried to escape off-road and his vehicle became stuck in a mud puddle.

Metro was arrested and taken to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility on the vehicle theft warrant, as well as felony eluding.
