Police have identified the man shot dead during a fight in East Anchorage Monday night as 30-year-old Aaron Syvinski.
According to police spokeswoman Jennifer Castro, officers were informed at about 11:40 p.m. of the shooting at an apartment on Charter Circle, near Lake Otis Parkway and DeBarr Road. Syvinski was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead at about 12:20 a.m. Tuesday.
Syvinski's family has been told about the death, police said.
"A preliminary investigation of the incident found that the victim was in an altercation with another occupant of the residence; the victim was shot by the person he was in an altercation with," Castro wrote. "Police are further investigating the circumstances."
Castro said in an email that police spoke with the person who shot Syvinski but no charges had been filed. Detectives and members of APD's Crime Scene Team were interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence Tuesday, and police were not seeking suspects.
The shooting didn't appear to be a case of domestic violence, Castro said, but police were still investigating whether drugs or alcohol were a factor.
