Kotzebue police say officer was threatened with shotgun

A man who Kotzebue police say threatened an officer with a loaded shotgun Sunday after making a false domestic-violence report has been charged with attempted murder and other offenses.

Online court records show Anthony Edward Lincoln, 38, is facing one count each of first-degree attempted murder, third-degree assault, fourth-degree misconduct involving weapons, making a false report of a crime and resisting arrest.

According to a Sunday criminal complaint signed by the officer -- whose name was redacted in the document shared with Alaska Dispatch News -- police responded to a domestic-violence assault call from a home in the Arctic Alaska town at about 4:45 a.m. Sunday.

"The defendant opened the door and pointed a shotgun at the officer and stated 'It's loaded,'" the officer reported. "The officer backed down the stairs and outside. The defendant followed with the shotgun and at gunpoint from the officer, the defendant put the shotgun down."

After the shotgun -- which the complaint said contained two live shells -- was secured, Lincoln allegedly got out of the patrol car and started a fight. The officer reported Lincoln had "a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and person as well as red watery eyes and slurred speech."

"The defendant told the officer 'I'll kill you,'" the complaint says. "The defendant attempted to take the officer's firearm by pulling on it and grabbing it, but was unsuccessful. The officer fought with the defendant for several minutes until backup arrived."

Lincoln was taken to the Kotzebue Regional Jail after police said he refused a breath test. An online inmate database didn't list him as still in custody at the jail Tuesday afternoon, and no attorney for him was listed in state court records.

A phone message left with Kotzebue police seeking further details on the incident wasn't immediately returned Tuesday afternoon.
