The Alaska Department of Law announced Thursday that the second-in-command at the Anchorage District Attorney's Office will take over for the office's top prosecutor when she retires this week.
Deputy District Attorney Clint Campion will take over for District Attorney Sharon Marshall, whose last day is Friday.
Marshall was appointed DA in 2012 and has since managed prosecutors and tried cases at Alaska's busiest court -- Anchorage handles nearly half of the workload of the statewide court system.
She has more than 25 years experience as a prosecutor and handled cases ranging from misdemeanors to murders. Most recently, she tried the state's murder and kidnapping case against Bukurim Miftari; the 24-year-old was sentenced to 61 years earlier this month.
"Sharon's dedication to public service and her professionalism both in the courtroom and managing the office made her an ideal district attorney," said recently appointed Attorney General Craig Richards in a prepared statement. "In my short time with the department, I have been impressed with Sharon's abilities and wish her well in retirement."
Marshall spent 14 years working at the Anchorage office.
Richards selected Campion to fill the position. The Department of Law hired Campion in 2008 as a felony trial prosecutor in the violent crimes and property crimes units. He took the deputy DA spot about two years ago.
Deputy Attorney General Richard Svobodny described Campion as a "consensus builder. "
"Clint excels in identifying issues; bringing the parties together and working on solutions that make every participant feel heard. This unique ability will serve the department well in reaching out to other agencies and the community," said Svobodny.
