The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Alaska ticked up slightly to 6.9 percent in September from 6.8 percent in August.
That continues a trend of the rate steadily rising this year, the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development said in a release Friday.
Last month's rate compares to 6.5 percent unemployment in September 2015.
From January through April, the adjusted unemployment rate was 6.6 percent. It then rose to 6.7 percent in May, June and July before going up again in August.
The unadjusted rate in September was 6.4 percent, up from 5.9 percent in August. That jump is "larger than usual for this time of year," the Labor Department said.
In 21 out of 29 boroughs and census areas in the state, unadjusted unemployment rates went up.
