On of the most popular and heralded Broadway musicals is coming to Anchorage in 2025.
Broadway Alaska announced on Wednesday that “The Lion King” would be part of its offering for the 2025-26 season.
Performance dates and times for “The Lion King,” will be announced later but Broadway Alaska said the run will be in fall 2025.
Based on the Disney film, “The Lion King” started on Broadway 27 years ago and has been touring North America for more than 22 years. During that stretch it has entertained over 23 million patrons in the course of 10,000 performances, making it North America’s longest-running and most-attended Broadway tour.
Broadway Alaska, a partnership between the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts and the Nederlander Organization, kicked off its second season this month with “Mean Girls,” which runs through Dec. 15.

The show won six Tony Awards when it debuted in 1998 and the Broadway score features songs by Elton John and Tim Rice from the film.
According to a release from Broadway Alaska, the show has been performer in nine different languages (English, Japanese, German, Korean, French, Dutch, Spanish, Mandarin and Portuguese) and there are currently eight productions of “The Lion King” active around the world
“The Lion King” came to Anchorage in 2009 a theatrical run produced by WestCoast Entertainment with the Anchorage Concert Association and Disney Theatrical Group.
