7 things to do in Anchorage this weekend

The Nutcracker with Eugene Ballet

2 p.m./7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 1 p.m./5:30 p.m. Sunday; Atwood Concert Hall, 621 W. Sixth Ave.

This show has become an Anchorage tradition over three decades with the Eugene Ballet and young dancers from Alaska Dance Theatre performing with the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra accompanying. Tickets start at $45.25.

Little Women: The Broadway musical

7 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 3 p.m. Sunday, Anchorage Community Theatre, 1133 E. 70th Ave.

Based on the Louisa May Alcott novel, the story follows the four March sisters as they navigate life in Civil War-era Massachusetts. Tickets are $25, $20 for seniors, students and military and $15 for children.

Holiday Tree Lighting

6-8 p.m. Saturday; Town Square Park, 544 W. Fifth Ave.

Families can meet Santa, who will light the tree alongside Mayor Suzanne LaFrance at this Anchorage Downtown Partnership event. There will also be live music, free hot chocolate and a handful of food and craft vendors on E Street, between Fourth and Fifth avenues.

Alaska Fighting Championship

7 p.m. Saturday; Sullivan Arena, 1600 Gambell St.

AFC 164 brings together combatants with a variety of backgrounds and disciplines. Tickets are $20-$30 for general admission with tables and VIP options available. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

The Super Saturated Sugar Strings

7-10 p.m. Saturday; Williwaw Social, 609 F St.

Alaska favorites The Super Saturated Sugar Strings take the stage at Williwaw for a chance to dance and vibe out after any potential holiday madness. Braden Rollins opens at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20, or $25 the day of the show.

ANC Zine Fair

Noon-6 p.m. Sunday; The Nave, 3502 Spenard Road

Independent zine-makers, publishers, print-makers and activists gather to celebrate zines, books, and other forms of printed media and strengthen self-published culture. Over 30 artists and publishers will have their work on display at this free, all-ages event.

Community Messiah

2 p.m. Sunday; First Baptist Church, 1100 W. 10th Ave.

Since 1947, singers and musicians from the area have gathered to perform Handel’s Messiah. This year’s concert, organized by the Anchorage Concert Chorus, includes a number of local soloists. Tickets are $20.
