6 things to do in Anchorage this weekend

Taking Back Sunday and The Used

7 p.m. Thursday; Alaska Airlines Center, 3550 Providence Drive

This co-headlining tour makes a stop in Anchorage with Taking Back Sunday, a rock band that emerged from the emo scene 25 years ago, and alt-rockers The Used. Doors open at 6 p.m. and tickets start at $71.

Anchorage Music City benefit concert

7 p.m. Friday; 49th State Brewing, 717 W. Third Ave.

This all-ages show is to support Alaska musicians traveling next month to a showcase at Iceland Airwaves, a large multi-genre music festival in Reykjavík. It features SunDog, Casey Smith Project and Air Jazz, the three members of the Alaska contingent headed to Iceland. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are $20, or $15 for attendees age 21 and under.

Alaska Wildlife Alliance benefit concert

6 p.m. Friday; Matanuska Brewing, 2830 C St.

This group’s annual Hibernation Celebration Wildlife Fundraiser builds support for wildlife conservation programs across the state. Music with The Janglebees starts at 9 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door.

Anchorage Fall Rock and Mineral Show

10 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Saturday; noon-5:30 p.m. Sunday; Midtown Mall, 600 E. Northern Lights Blvd.

This event will feature vendors in two large rooms selling rocks, minerals, fossils, jewelry and other nature-inspired crafts. The show benefits the Chugach Gem and Mineral Society and the Alaska Science and Engineering Fair.

Fish Creek Art Installation and Walking Tour

2 p.m. Sunday; Cuddy Family Midtown Park, 210 E. 40th Ave.

It may surprise some, but Cuddy Park is part of Fish Creek. The Friends of Fish Creek commissioned artist Max Romey to create an art panel to tell the story of Ch’atanaltsegh — Fish Creek — with a ribbon-cutting event scheduled for Sunday.

Alaska Electronic Orchestra

4 p.m. Sunday; The Nave, 3502 Spenard Road

The first show in the season series is Sunday, with local composer/woodwind artist Rick Zelinsky joined by a rotating cast of guest musicians. The theme of the opener is electric saxophones. Tickets are $20.
