Alaska Off-Road Cycling Summit

2024 AK Ski Swap

Noon-4 p.m. Saturday; Alaska Airlines Center, 3550 Providence Drive

The AK Ski Swap is a great place to prep for the season by selling or buying used gear. Gear drop-off is Friday from 5-8 p.m. and Saturday 8:30-10:30 a.m. There’s also an early-bird entry at 11:45 a.m. for $20 a ticket. Check akskiswap.com to register to sell gear or for more details.

Jams for Fams

10 a.m. Saturday; Bear Tooth Theatrepub, 1230 W. 27th Ave.

This Halloween costume family dance party features door prizes and interactive fun like freeze dancing and the Y.M.C.A. Tickets are $20 for kids and adults. The event is recommended for children 10 and under. Non-walking babies are admitted free.

ANHC 25th Anniversary Benefit Concert

6 p.m. Saturday; Williwaw Social, 609 F St.

The Alaska Native Heritage Center celebrates its 25th year with a concert featuring The Halluci Nation, Portugal. The Man, and Iñupiaq and Athabascan artist Quinn Christopherson. The evening will also include the SNERTZ World Championships, a 50-50 raffle and a Buck The Mak(Lak) fundraiser. Tickets are $65 or $80 for VIP and all proceeds from ticket sales will directly benefit the Alaska Native Heritage Center.

Shine

6 p.m. Saturday; The Nave, 3502 Spenard Road

This dance party and fundraiser is hosted by Momentum Dance Collective and includes live performances. The shine theme invites dancers to “lip into something that sparkles or shines.” There will be a shine-up station with face glitter for those who want extra sparkle. Tickets range from $25 to $50 and donations are also accepted.

Moe Bandy

7:30 p.m. Saturday; Egan Center, 555 W. Fifth Ave.

Country music artist Moe Bandy performs in Anchorage, bringing his hits like “Bandy The Rodeo Clown” and “Cowboys Ain’t Supposed To Cry.” Bandy launched Americana Theatre in Branson, Missouri, more than 30 years ago. Tickets are $55.

Hollywood Heroes

7:30 p.m. Saturday; Atwood Concert Hall, 621 W. Sixth Ave.

Enjoy soundtrack music you know and love in this Anchorage Symphony Orchestra performance. The show includes songs from “Wonder Woman,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Rocky,” “Star Trek,” “Magnificent Seven,” “Black Panther” and more. Tickets start at $38.50.

Preoccupations of Place

7 p.m. Wednesday; Loussac Public Library, 3600 Denali St.

The free event isn’t until midweek, but it features two Alaska authors whose recent works have received significant acclaim. Presented by 49 Writers and the National Book Foundation, Anchorage native Leigh Newman discusses her 2022 book “Nobody Gets Out Alive,” and preoccupations with people, place and her home state. The discussion is moderated by award-winning writer Lily H. Tuzroyluke.
