7 things to do in Anchorage this weekend

Skerryvore

7:30 p.m. Friday; Atwood Concert Hall, 621 W. Sixth Ave.

Named Scotland’s “Live Act of the Year,” this energetic group features a mix of fiddle, accordions, bagpipes and whistles, guitar, drums and vocals. Tickets start at $36.

Make It Alaskan Market

5-9 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday; noon-5 p.m. Sunday; Egan Civic & Convention Center, 555 W. Fifth Ave.

With nearly 60 vendors, this annual market is a great spot for shopping, live music, food and fun. The Friday market is a sip and shop for 21 and older. The Saturday and Sunday markets are all ages and family friendly. Admission is free.

Haydn: The Creation

7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday; Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, 3900 Wisconsin St.

The Alaska Chamber Singers kick off their season with Joseph Haydn’s famed oratorio. Featured performers include soprano Summer Rae Kuhns, tenor Luke Honeck and baritone Richard Zeller. Tickets are $40, or $35 for military or seniors age 62 and older.

Alaska Whole Life Festival

11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; Coast Inn on Lake Hood, 3450 Aviation Ave.

This event promotes itself as the state’s premier Metaphysical and Healing Arts Event, with both local and international vendors and a lecture series that spans both days. Admission is $10, or $5 for military, students and seniors age 65 and over.

Rage City Roller Derby Auction and Gala

6-9 p.m. Saturday; Alaska Aviation Museum, 4721 Aircraft Drive

This fundraising event includes live and silent auctions, live music and entertainment by Schaefer Mueller, a bar, a hors d’oeuvre buffet by Alaska Berry and Board, as well as a dessert bar featuring AKookie Co and Lola Sweets AK. Tickets are $15 or $25 for two.

Capitol Fools

7:30 p.m. Saturday; Atwood Concert Hall, 621 W. Sixth Ave.

This musical parody show was preceded by the famed Capitol Steps and lampoons politics from all sides. Tickets start at $36.

PIC-A-Truck

2-5 p.m. Sunday; Clark Middle School, 150 Bragaw St.

This event is simultaneously an opportunity for kids to explore vehicles of all kinds as well as a diaper drive for Alaska Programs for Infants and Children. A school bus, fire truck, police car, Humvee and construction trucks will be on site. The event is free, but organizers ask attendees to bring diapers for donation.

First Friday

Anchorage Museum: Check out the new exhibition “Painting at the End of the Ice Age” along with the opening celebration for “Nuestra Huella” (Our Footprint). There are also voter registration for the League of Women Voters and docent-led talks on Iñupiat Cultural Belongings and the 11th Air Force’s 77th Bomber Squadron. Free admission from 6-9 p.m. 625 C St., 6-9 p.m.

Georgia Blue Gallery: Featuring cartoonist Chad Carpenter and anthropologist Patricia Partnow. 3555 Arctic Blvd., 5-7 p.m.

Akela Space: Featuring “Three in the Pit,” an exhibition of 20 years of live music by photographer Kerry Tasker, 320 W. Sixth Ave., 6 p.m.
