5 things to do in Anchorage this weekend

Oktoberfest

2-8 p.m. Saturday; Egan Civic & Convention Center, 555 W. Fifth Ave.

Plenty of German-themed fun is in store with beer, food and entertainment. There will be petting zoo farm animals, photos and live music by the Alaska Polka Chips featuring Alaska Button Box Gang and Alaska Main Squeeze. Tickets are $25, and kids 11 years old and younger are admitted free.

National Public Lands Day

Saturday; various locations

National Public Lands Day has featured thousands of hours of volunteer efforts and free admission to national parks to celebrate. A number of organizations are spearheading local volunteer efforts. At the BLM Campbell Tract location, groups will work to maintain the Moose Track Trail and on the new singletrack trail and winterizing the nearby native plant gardens. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. with lunch for volunteers at noon. Also in Anchorage, Alaska Trails volunteers will be working to improve drainage options and tread work on the Sunnyside Flattop Trail in Chugach State Park from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. The Friends of the Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge will also be conducting a litter pickup at Potter Marsh from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Anchorage Symphony Orchestra

7:30 p.m. Saturday; Atwood Concert Hall, 621 W. Sixth Ave.

The opening night for the Anchorage Symphony features pianist Maxim Lando and includes selections from Carlos Simon and Sergei Rachmaninoff as well as Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5. Tickets range from $27.50 to $52.50.

EMERGE125

7:30 p.m. Saturday; Discovery Theatre, 621 W. Sixth Ave.

EMERGE125 is a Black- and female-led hub for dance performance, creation and education. The troupe will perform Saturday. Tickets range from $48.50 to $63.25.

Alaskan Landscapes with Alaska Resounding

4 p.m. Sunday; Anchorage Museum, 625 C St.

Juneau artist Crystal Worl will create visual works as chamber musicians from Alaska and the Pacific Northwest perform music by composers including women and Indigenous artists. Register for the performance at the museum’s website.
