Here are 3 things to do in Anchorage this weekend

Somehow, August has arrived. And while plenty of music fans will be heading south for Salmonfest this weekend, there are still opportunities to have some fun in Anchorage.

International Taiko Concert

7 p.m. Friday, West High School, 1700 Hillcrest Drive

This concert will showcase Japanese cultural display with local taiko drumming group Tomodachi Daiko along with guests Dengakuza and Chokoma from Japan. General admission tickets are $20 and doors open at 6:30 p.m.

The Mystery of Irma Vep

7 p.m. Friday/Saturday; 3 p.m. Sunday, Cyrano’s Theatre Building, 3800 DeBarr Road

This wild satire has it all, including mummies and werewolves. The play stars just two performers, but they go full tilt to change into a number of different characters over the course of the performers, wowing audiences while unfurling the mystery. Tickets are $27-$30.

I Like Robots

9:30 p.m. Friday, Humpy’s Great Alaskan Alehouse, 610 W. 6th Ave.

One of Alaska’s favorite party bands delivers favorite hits from the ’80s for you to dance to all night long. While donning your favorite ’80s gear to hit the dance floor isn’t required, it’s certainly recommended.
