Here are some of the big Anchorage Pride events coming up

Pride month is well underway, with several local gatherings celebrating the LGBTQ+ community. Many of the biggest events in Anchorage are happening over the next week. Here’s how to join in on the celebrations, plus some details on next month’s Underground Pride in Palmer.

Rainbow Run: 6 p.m. Tuesday, West 10th Avenue and N Street

The Rainbow Run returns with a new route for runners in rainbow-themed costumes. Prizes will be awarded to best team, most creative, Alaska Pride, most original and most colorful costume. There will be a celebration at the finish line and an afterparty at The Raven. A virtual race also wraps up Tuesday. The cost for either option is $35, and funds raised from the run will go to Four A’s and Choosing Our Roots.

Mad Myrna’s Pride Week: Through Saturday, Mad Myrna’s, 530 E. Fifth Ave.

The week kicks off with Really Gay Trivia at 7 p.m. Tuesday and Over the Rainbow Karaoke at 9 p.m. Wednesday, with no reservations required. Thursday features the 20th anniversary of Drag Queen Bingo, which starts at 8 p.m. and is sold out. Weekend fun starts Friday with the diva Pride show This Drag is a Crime starting at 9 p.m. The official 2023 Mad Myrna’s Pride party, I Love Being Out, is the main event Saturday starting at 9 p.m. Check the venue’s site for ticket prices and availability.

Diversity in the OUTdoors Solstice Party: 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Goose Lake Park, 2811 UAA Drive

Native Movement hosts the fourth annual Diversity in the OUTdoors Solstice Party at Goose Lake Pavilion. The celebration of people in the LGBTQIA2S+ community and allies will include food and live music with Marc Brown and the Blues Crew.

Pride Loteria: 6-8 p.m. Friday, 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Cafecito Bonito, 6307 DeBarr Road

Cafecito Bonito will host a pair of drag shows over the weekend. The Friday show features Dela Rosa, Divina Rosa and Osha Violation. The Sunday performance includes Dela Rosa, Athena Nuff and Krustyna Clown. Tickets are $10 with $3 play cards.

Anchorage Pride Parade: 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Delaney Park Strip, West Ninth Avenue

Alaskans Together Foundation is putting on this year’s parade, which returns after a three-year absence. The parade will circle the Delaney Park Strip between E and I streets, ending at the Celebrate Pride ‘23 Festival. Attendees are encouraged to fly rainbow flags, put on their brightest and boldest outfits and join the celebration.

Celebrate Pride: noon-5 p.m. Saturday, Delaney Park Strip, West Ninth Avenue

This is an all-ages and family-friendly event that will include many local vendors, food trucks, beer garden, open mic performances and community performances. It will culminate in a drag performance showcasing local talent from Anchorage and the surrounding area.

Pride Block Party: noon-7 p.m. Saturday, The Writer’s Block Bookstore & Cafe, 3956 Spenard Road

This free, family-friendly gathering is the fifth annual Pride party in the heart of Spenard. This year’s event features DJ Ms. Mix and DJ Aud Pleas Spin, and M.C. MoHagani Magnetek will be the gathering’s hostess. BIPOC queer artist vendors/booths are another highlight of the block party, and drinks and food will be available at the Writer’s Block.

Viva Pride ‘23: 9 p.m. Saturday, Koot’s, 2435 Spenard Road

The annual drag show and party in Spenard is debuting a new format. Curated by host Athena Nuff, this show will be a combination of a dance party, featuring DJ Rachel Monae, with drag performances from Venus Vixen, BeyQuance, Dr. Feelgood, Ice Watah, Cry Baby and Nuff. Tickets range from $20 for general admission to $125-$175 for tables of four.

Identity’s Take Pride in Health event: 2 to 6 p.m. Monday, Identity Alaska, 307 E. Northern Lights Blvd.

This health fair will include onsite STI/HIV testing, COVID-19 and mpox vaccinations, blood pressure screenings and new patient registration. Mobile mammography will also be available from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.; preregistration is encouraged by calling the Providence Imaging Center at 907-212-4982. Providence Alaska, Planned Parenthood, Alaskan AIDS Assistance Association and other organizations will be at the fair. Underground Pride 2023: noon-8 p.m., July 22, Alaska State Fairgrounds, 2075 Glenn Highway in Palmer

The Queen’s Guard presents the 4th Annual Underground Pride at the Alaska State Fairgrounds. A family friendly event for LGBTQIA2+ and allies of all ages. A big crowd is expected with around 100 vendors onsite and a pair of drag shows and six food trucks and four more food vendors.
