Dozens of Alaska’s top businesses and services will be celebrated Saturday with the Best of Alaska Showcase. If you prefer the nightlife, there are comedy and dancing options as well this weekend. For a more relaxed experience, the Charlie Chaplin classic “The Gold Rush” is being shown with the backing of the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra.
And if you’d like to hang in for the weekend, Arctic Entries’ first show of 2023 is next Tuesday.
Best of Alaska Showcase: noon-5 p.m. Saturday, Dena’ina Center, 600 W. Seventh Ave.
This showcase celebrates the best Alaska has to offer from eating, shopping and services. Check out the 2022 Best of Alaska winners here. There is a VIP hour from noon to 1 p.m. that includes unlimited food and drink with tickets at $50. The all-ages event runs from 1-5 p.m. Adult tickets are $25 and include 10 food-tasting tickets. There are also ticket options for children and families.
All of the Lights: 9 p.m. Saturday, Williwaw Social, 609 F St.
This party features an all-female lineup of DJs like TatiBeats and Dig Sista, plus glow sunglasses and glow batons for guests as well as a light show. Tickets are $10.
Silent Film Night featuring “The Gold Rush”: 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Alaska Center for the Performing Arts, 621 W. Sixth Ave.
In Charlie Chaplin’s classic film, featuring his recurring character “The Little Tramp,” a prospector goes to the Klondike during the 1890s gold rush. This Pops concert with the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra features Timothy Brock as guest conductor. Tickets start at $28.50.
Comedian Morgan Preston: 7 p.m./9:30 p.m. Saturday, Koot’s, 2435 Spenard Road
One of the most prolific comedians working, Preston did 50 shows in 50 states in 48 days, setting a record in the process. Over the years, he’s worked with big names like Richard Lewis and Gilbert Gottfried. Tickets are $20.
907 Pro Wrestling: 3-6 p.m. Saturday, Arctic Rec Center, 4855 Arctic Blvd.
Bobby Bishop and Jerry Bishop face off, with the winner of their matchup earning the title of inaugural Midnight Sun Champion. “Kid Money” Maurice Mitchell, “Cannonball” Burt Ringo, Ben Dossman and The Hooligainz will also make appearances. Front-row seats $20, general admission $15.
Arctic Entries: 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Atwood Concert Hall, 621 W. Sixth Ave.
It’s not until next week, but the 13th season of Arctic Entries returns Tuesday. Episode 2 features stories of sneaking out, slipping away and staying too long. Tickets are $15/$20.
