Here are a dozen ways to celebrate New Year’s Eve in and around Anchorage

Whether you’re thankful for a fruitful 2022 or excited for the start of 2023, there are plenty of reasons to celebrate on New Year’s Eve. Anchorage has plenty of entertainment options, headlined by the traditional downtown celebration and fireworks display.

Here are a dozen ways Alaskans can ring in and enjoy the new year:

Downtown Anchorage: 7-9 p.m., 498 W. Third Ave.

The Anchorage Downtown Partnership is hosting the downtown New Year’s Eve celebration. The free event will include the annual fireworks display and an outdoor party featuring live music in the Chinook Parking Lot on Third Avenue and E Street. Fireworks start at 8 p.m.

Hotel Captain Cook: 7 p.m.-1 a.m., 939 W. Fifth Ave.

The Prom You Should Have Had is the theme to this party, which includes ‘80s music by DJ Lefty, a buffet dinner at 9 p.m. and champagne toast at midnight. Party favors, noise makers and hats are provided. Tickets are $125.

Dave & Busters: 9 p.m.-1 a.m., 800 E. Dimond Blvd.

This bash will include dozens of arcade games, handcrafted cocktails and mocktails and a premium appetizer buffet. There will also be two raffle drawings at 10 and 11 p.m. Tickets are $64.99.

Williwaw: 6 p.m.-1:30 a.m., 609 F St.

The theme for this party is A Rave New Year, with a plethora of DJs on multiple floors including DJ Grè, Fan Service, Lloyd’s Noize and DJ 3rd George. Tickets are $25 in advance, $35 at the door and $100 for VIP.

49th State Brewing: 7-8:30 p.m., 717 W. Third Ave.

Celebrate High Gravity New Year’s on the Rooftop. Not only will attendees get a great view of the evening’s fireworks but it’s also the release of Medjool Majesty, a Belgian strong ale brewed with spruce tips and medjool dates. Tickets are $20.

Koot’s: 10 p.m.-1 a.m., 2435 Spenard Road

A Very Silver New Year’s Eve is the theme at Koot’s, which will feature live music from The Stack plus two DJs. There will be party favors, including hats and noise makers plus $250 for the winners of Tunnel Tunes and Butt Bongo contests.

Alyeska Resort: 5:30 p.m.-1 a.m., 1000 Arlberg Ave. in Girdwood

Kahiltna Court will be hosting a dinner from 5:30-8:30 p.m. featuring a champagne or milkshake toast, plated four-course dinner and musical quartet. Tickets are $165 for adults and $55 for kids. And later in the evening at 10 p.m., the Sitzmark is hosting a night of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers music performed by some of Alaska’s best. Tickets are $30. The Torchlight Parade and fireworks will also be featured.

Wasilla: 8 p.m., 594 W. Nelson Ave. in Wasilla

Wasilla will host its traditional New Year’s fireworks display at Wonderland Park. Multiple local businesses will also be joining in and the Menard Sports Center will be open from 6-9 p.m. with food and games for all ages.

Eagle River: 6-8 p.m., Eagle River Road and East Eagle River Loop Road

ACF Church is hosting this event at Lions Park in Eagle River that will include fireworks, food trucks and fun.

Mad Myrna’s: 9 p.m.-1 a.m., 530 E. Fifth Ave.

Happy New Queer is the theme of this party which includes a balloon drop, champagne toast plus food and drink specials. DJ Covy will be spinning tunes as Mad Myrna’s kicks off 25 years in downtown Anchorage. Tickets are $10.

Alaska Cannabis Exchange: 8 p.m.-2 a.m., 2906 Spenard Road

The inaugural 420 New Year Countdown will feature DJ Censation, a twerking contest and a best-dressed contest with $250 top prizes. Tickets are $30.

Sober Lounge: Thursdays in January, 6-9 p.m., 330 E St.

For the many people who may be practicing Dry January or just looking for an alcohol-free space, the lounge will have weekly zero-proof craft cocktail specials and trivia. All proceeds will benefit the Recover Alaska Fund.
