Get your St. Patrick’s Day ‘shamrocking’ with these local events

Take a break from the white outside and enjoy all of the green these indoor celebrations have to offer. If you’re looking to celebrate your Irish heritage or if you just want to share a pint of green ale with your friends, here are some events to observe St. Patrick’s Day in Anchorage.

Traditional St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations

Here is a selection of Irish cultural dance and music celebrations.

Ceilidh: The Irish Cultural Collective will be doing traditional dancing and singing to celebrate Irish heritage in America. There will also be free traditional Irish dance lessons with no partner required. 6-9 p.m. Tuesday. The Hard Rock Cafe, corner of E St. and W. Fourth Ave. (hardrockcafe.com)

Wearin’ O’ the Green Concert: The award-winning band Alaska Celtic Pipes and Drums will give a special performance as part of their ALC Sunday Concert Series to celebrate St. Patrick’s Weekend. Irish Dancing: The Alaska Treble Makers will perform Irish jigs and reels. 7 p.m. Saturday, McGinley’s Pub, 645 G St. (907-279-1782)

Here are some local bars offering all things green for the holiday.

Humpy’s: Warm up for the big day with “St. Practice Day.” There will be themed food and drink including Duck Farts and live music by Rogues and Wenches with a special appearance from the Firefighters Bagpipe Band. 5-11:30 p.m. Saturday. On St. Patrick’s Day, Humpy’s will be giving away swag throughout the night including a “pot of gold.” There will be live music by Hot Dish. 5-11:30 p.m. Tuesday, 610 W. 907 Alehouse: St. Patrick Day meets taco Tuesday to bring you $2 steak tacos, corned beef with cabbage and green beer. There will be live music by Lefty’s Pocket. 7 p.m. Tuesday, 8001 Old Seward Highway. (facebook.com/907alehouse)

Koot’s: Dress in all green and you will fit right in with everything green at Koot’s. Gas Station Disco and The Eternal Cowboys will be performing live music. Corned beef and cabbage will be on the menu for the day. 10 p.m.-2 a.m. Tuesday, 2435 Spenard Road (koots.com)
