Where to celebrate on New Year's Eve in Anchorage and Girdwood

It can be hard to figure out where you want to be when you ring in the new year. If parties, people and fireworks are your thing, here are some options in Anchorage and Girdwood.

Fire & Ice Festival New Year's Eve Celebration — An Anchorage tradition for families, there will be live music, performances from The Stars We Are Competition, street performers, fire dancers, food trucks and fireworks in Town Square Park. 5 p.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, Town Square Park, 551 W. Razzle Dazzle New Year's Ball — The Anchorage Museum is creating a unique backdrop inspired by razzle dazzle patterns used as camouflage during World War I. Rooftop party at 49th State Brewing Co. —  49th State is opening up their epic deck and offering fire pits, heaters, blankets, mulled wine, spiced cider, eggnog, s'mores and — of course — beers. Girdwood torchlight parade — Watch skiers and snowboarders at Alyeska carry torches in a procession down the mountain, followed by a fireworks show. Free. The best viewing is at the Daylodge base area. 8:30-10 p.m. Saturday. (alyeskaresort.com)

Anders Osborne at the Sitzmark — New Orleans-based blues and rock musician Anders Osborne will play Friday and Saturday at the Sitzmark. (On Saturday — sold out — he takes the stage after the fireworks.) 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Sitzmark Bar and Grill, 100 Olympic Circle, Girdwood. $30. 21 and over. New Year's Eve with Big Fat Buddha — There will be family fun from 5-8 p.m. with face painting, hot cocoa and games. New Year's Eve Concert with Blackwater Railroad Company — Blackwater Railroad Company will headline a lineup that also includes The Hannah Yoter Band, The Unfaithful Lovers, Tayy Tarantino and B1.
