2016 Rarefied Light winners announced

Greg Hensel of Wasilla received the Best of Show award for this year's Rarefied Light juried photography exhibition. Hensel's print "Smoke and Shadows" was selected by juror Amy Arbus from 654 entries. In addition, Arbus awarded five honorable mentions to individual pieces by Will Anderson of Kotzebue, Joe Kashi of Soldotna, Dennis Walworth of Anchorage and Charlotte Peterson of Fairbanks. Peterson received two honorable mentions for two individual photos.

For the 2016 Rarefied Light exhibit, Arbus selected a total of 52 photos by 33 artists. The exhibit will open with a reception at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, at the International Gallery of Contemporary Art in downtown Anchorage.

Mike Dunham was a longtime ADN reporter, mainly writing about culture, arts and Alaska history. He worked in radio for 20 years before switching to print. He retired from the ADN in 2017.
