Kodiak police have arrested a man on first-degree murder charges for a fatal shooting in the island community early Sunday morning.
According to a statement from the Kodiak Police Department issued Sunday afternoon, police were informed shortly after 12:30 a.m. of "an individual who had been shot" at St. Herman Harbor. Police have not yet identified the victim, a 28-year-old man, pending notification of his next of kin.
"Responding officers contacted several witnesses and found an unresponsive male who was bleeding from several gunshot wounds," the department wrote. "(The victim) was transported to the Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center by the Kodiak Fire Department where he was pronounced deceased."
Investigators subsequently arrested 28-year-old Washington state resident Matt Bowe in the man's death.
Police dispatchers said further information on the case would be released by KPD Chief Ronda Wallace, who wasn't immediately available for comment Sunday afternoon.
