Another young person in the Western Alaska village of Hooper Bay has died by suicide, Alaska State Troopers reported Sunday.
The death on Saturday of 21-year-old Carl Dominic Robert Joe is the fourth suicide in 16 days in the village of about 1,200 people.
Troopers received word of Joe's death around 2:20 p.m. Saturday. He was found dead at his parents' home, troopers said.
He was friends with the same group of young adults that has seen three others kill themselves since Sept. 24, a relative said.
The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corp. has sent counselors to the village, and other agencies are gearing up to help. Experts on suicide say to be on the lookout for changes in behavior including mood swings, extreme rage, withdrawal from others, increased drinking and sleeping too much or too little.
